Z Controls are specialists in electrical design & automation systems. I created the logo design for Z Controls a few months before they asked for a website. Of course they were happy with the logo design! So they were confident I could produce the goods for the web design too. And they were indeed extremely pleased with the results.

The Logo Design
They came to me with quite a specific design brief, showing me precisely what they had in mind. I simply had to create the design using design software, tidying it up, and producing digital files that they could use for any purpose.
The Z icon is made up of a specific graph, where the lines were important to get the exact contours. We used this graph idea to convey the technical aspects of their industry. We supplied the logo in a number of formats for digital or printing use.
Animated Logo / Icon
To add a little motion to the website, they asked me to create some kind of animation using the logo. I first tried to animate the graph being rendered in real time, but I then settled on a very simple shimmer effect, just to draw the eye and give the website an extra element. It was created as an animated Gif, to ensure the file size was as small as possible, and it was compatible with any browser.
The Web Design
At the time of launch, the information they had for the website wasn’t plentiful, but well written. So I decided to create a simple two page web design, using al of the available information on the home page, but visually splitting it up so it is easily digestible.
Of course, as they grow and continue to generate information, the website is set up to allow new pages whenever needed. But I believe that having all of the important information on the home page can be a great advantage for SEO.
Custom Icon Design
Using relevant icons can help to split up information on a website, instantly giving the visitor a visual prompt about what the information is about. I have created many icons for various websites in the past, so I have a suite of icons to choose from, but this required a few new ones! It can be an art in itself to create an illustration that is as simple as possible, yet clearly recognised.
Search Engine Optimisation / SEO
As I just alluded to, having most of the information on the home page can be an advantage for SEO, however I advised that they elaborate on each service they offer to perhaps create a detailed page for each service, which will clearly improve SEO. But we ensured that the SEO basics are covered.
Future support
And with most of my web design projects I keep an eye on their search engine rankings for a number of weeks, making sure there are no major issues. I also provide ongoing website maintenance for all of my customers, ensuring the websites are secure and regularly updated, if needed.
