Historical Location Illustrations

One of my recent illustration projects was to supply the artwork for a large format installation that informed visitors about the notable or historic locations in the area. The clients asked for 17 drawings of select locations, drawn in a similar style.

For each location, the illustration obviously needed to accurately convey the building shapes & landscape, but I was given a bit of artistic license to place each location in a scene, which framed each location nicely, using vibrant colours.

How the drawings were used

Initially, the client just wanted an illustrated map featuring an drawing of each location on the map. But after producing a few illustrations, the client could see how the style could be applied throughout the whole installation, which evolved the whole project to use the same vector / cartoon style.

I eventually produced around 20 large format panels, along with a printed Activity Book with black & white line versions of each illustration, to be used in a colouring book to occupy children while visiting the installation.
