Blackheath Clinic Logo & Web Design

After moving from Greenwich to Blackheath in London, The Greenwich Spa needed to change their website and logo design / branding, becoming Blackheath Laser & Skin Clinic. They asked me to create the logo design and build the new website, which was an opportunity to make a number of improvements in the website style and general user navigation.

Web Design Style & Usability

The old Greenwich Spa website (see below) was very clean / clinical in style, with a blue colour scheme and a very basic text logo. They also had a larger range of treatments, requiring a full screen width “mega menu” to display all of the treatment options. We reduced the number of treatments for the new website, making navigation far more simple.

Warmer colours & visual feel

By using black, white and gold, alongside the dark skin tones of the hero image, the new website has a much warmer feel. And the logo has a bit more going on, conveying a more premium feel. Also, the simplified navigation not only improves usability, it allows more space to be freed up, all of which makes it easier for the visitor to find specific treatments and ultimately book an appointment.

Attention to Typography

I believe that typography can also have a big affect on the overall feel of a web design project. Selecting the right font for each website style can make a big difference. This also needs to be taken into account when creating a logo, as you see with the Blackheath lettering, I intentionally chose Times New Roman for the Blackheath name, so this would be easily achieved using web-safe fonts.

The general page text uses a clean sans-serif font, in this case, Jost for the titles and Arial for the general text. But it’s important to utilise thin and bold fonts to highlight specific words. This little detail really adds a bit of style and visual interest to basic text.

Future Support & SEO

I took across the blog articles from the Greenwich Spa website, updating them to apply to the new clinic name and location. But I also added a couple of new blog articles to promote their newer treatments. We will continue to add new blog articles over time to continue improving SEO. But the on page SEO was checked using SEO Optimer, ensuring we achieved an A score before we launched. This gives the website a great chance of getting high rankings immediately.
